Pierre Deux's Provence Plays Custom Theme

By Carole Sloan -- Home Textiles Today, 3/6/2006

New York — Pierre Deux returns to its roots for spring with new fabrics and furnishings celebrating the designs and colors of Provence.

And an important part of the new collection is an emphasis on custom work of all types — window, bedding, headboards, table linens and upholstery. It's a segment of the business “that is going through the roof,” in the words of Heather Ryan, vp, sales and marketing. With the new collection, the retailer is allocating more display space to its custom program, in addition to having a custom specialist on board to help customers with their projects.

Reds, yellows and blues interpreted from the original Indian dyes and designs of the 17th century are featured in a new fabric collection made in France. The fabrics are translated onto furniture, as window coverings, decorative pillows, an array of accessory items, and quilts. A major highlight is the introduction of hand embroidered pillows from Jean Francois Lesage of Paris. Pierre Deux is featuring a number of designs derived from its Rivoli design and whimsical interpretations of decorative objects.

Pierre Deux will open two locations this spring: the Decoration and Design Center (979 Third Ave., New York) and the International Design Center in Estero, Fla.
