Socially Responsible Sourcing is Aim of D'Angelo

By Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 2/20/2006

New York — Home textiles design entrepreneur Victoria D'Angelo has opened a consultancy to help fashion textiles and retail sourcers find and offer socially responsible products from around the world. Called the Global Products Placement Project, the consultancy sources from underprivileged working groups from around the world, helps them to develop marketable products, and matches them with channels of distribution and revenue.

The business came about after D'Angelo launched an initiative that brought global exposure and distribution to impoverished lace makers in a small village in India. In addition to lace, the new venture offers fashion bedding, novelty fleece, bath rugs, shower curtains, bathrobes, decorative pillows, table linens, kitchen linens, window panels and accent rugs.

“We focus on finding and cultivating the talent of these unique groups of craftspeople, helping them refine their products to meet the demands of a dynamic global marketplace,” D'Angelo said. “The result is that companies get distinctive, high quality, and hand crafted products that give them a competitive advantage, while the craftspeople receive much needed revenue that supports their families and their communities. Everybody wins.”

Originally a knitwear designer, D'Angelo founded Design Development Team, Int'l Inc. in the mid 1990's as a research vehicle related to product development for the fashion industry. She transitioned into home textiles as D'Angelo Home Collections, Inc. and then Victoria D'Angelo Interior Collections.
