Burlington, N.J. — Bounding back from a loss in the first fiscal quarter, Burlington Coat Factory Warehouse Corp. parlayed stronger sales into a second quarter profit of $45.4 million, up 8.8 percent from a prior-year profit of $41.7 million.
Sales at the off-price retailer, the parent of Luxury Linens, rose by 8.4 percent, to $945.4 million from $872.0 million last year, helped by new store openings. Same-store sales improved by 5.3 percent.
The profit marks a turnaround from a loss of $15.9 million during the historically unprofitable first fiscal quarter.
