It's a Happy 25 as KAS Oriental Marks a Milestone

By Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 1/2/2006

Somerset, N.J. — KAS Oriental Rugs Inc., a supplier of imported handmade and machine-made rugs, in January will celebrate its 25th anniversary.

The family-owned company was established in 1980 when couple Rao and Kas Yarlagadda set up shop in New York City. Soon after, their nephew, Hari Tummala joined them and together they operated Kas for three years.

Kas' origins were as a small importer of dhurries and hand-knotted rugs from India as well as varieties from China and Pakistan.

By 1987, the company outgrew is New York City site and relocated its headquarters and main showroom to Secaucus, N.J. Then nine years later, it again became too large and had to move yet again — this time to its current site here.

Kas also operates permanent showrooms in New York City, Atlanta and High Point, N.C. and has a presence at the Surfaces Show in Las Vegas.

Today, Kas services retailers in every floor covering category and in many channels of distribution throughout the United States, Canada, South America and Asia. It carries more than 45 different collections of hand-tufted, hand-knotted and machine-made qualities from India, China, Belgium and other parts of the world.

Kas will hold a special celebration for its anniversary January 20th during the Atlanta International Area Rug market.
