Gribetz Leaves Macy's

By Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 12/19/2005

New York — Lester Gribetz recently resigned as senior vice president, creative/fashion at Macy's Home Store.

Gribetz a 30-year Bloomingdale's veteran, joined the Federated division in 2004 after serving as vice president of creative for the Bloomingdale's home store.

Gribetz began his retail career at Bloomingdale's in 1954 in the executive training program. He spent most of his career involved in home furnishings, becoming senior vp of home in 1977, gmm of home and cosmetics in 1979 and executive vp, general merchandise manager, home, cosmetics and restaurants in 1980. In 1989, he was named vice chairman with added responsibilities for special merchandising projects including private-label marketing and the men's division.

In 1992, Gribetz, and former Bloomingdale's chairman and ceo Marvin Traub, formed MTLG Acquisition Corp, with other investors and acquired the then Conran's home furnishings specialty chain from British-based Storehouse.

Gribetz later ran his own consulting business specializing in marketing for manufacturers and designers' merchandise. He rejoined Bloomingdale's in early 2001.

“It's time for me to spread my wings and hopefully someone will want me,” Gribetz said discussing his plans to open a consulting business, similar to what he did between his stints at Bloomingdale's. “I had a very good year and it was very educational. There have been a lot of changes here and there are great people. I'm leaving behind two of the best in the business in fashion direction — Trish Foley and Gary Edge.”
