GLM Reworking Home Textiles Show

At The New York Market —The two textiles components of the semi-annual New York Home Textiles Show will go their separate ways in summer, each aligning with other events at different dates to address the sifts in the retail industry.
“It's no secret that the home textiles industry has been undergoing changes,” said Penny Sikalis, vice president and group show manager, George Little Management.
Global Sources, the overseas textiles manufacturer section of the current Javits show, will make the shift in two phases. Next spring, the show will take place at the Jacob Javits Center in New York from March 28-30 — three days before the opening of the luxury bedding-oriented New York Home Textiles Show. George Little Management, producer of both shows, expects 300 exhibitors, predominantly from Asia.
In 2007, Global Sources will be spun off into a free-standing event and relocated to Las Vegas. There, it will run concurrently with the Gourmet Housewares Show and the National Hardware Show, which take place in late May each year in Las Vegas. GLM expects the relocated show will draw 500 exhibitors, also primarily from Asia, in addition the 3,500 at the other two shows. The combined shows attract more than 40,000 attendees.
“Aligning with the Gourmet Housewares Show and the National Hardware Show in 2007 will add appeal, visibility and national relevance — creating a broad and comprehensive market for home-focused industries,” said Sikalis.
The high-end New York Home Textiles Show will stick with its previously announced spring 2006 dates of March 31 to April 3. But beginning in August 2006, the show will run concurrently with the semi-annual New York Gift Fair, which takes place in late January and mid-August each year at the Javits Convention Center and the Passenger Ship Terminal Piers.
“We've already seen a migration of home textiles buyers attending the Gift Fair,” Sikalis said.
The New York Home Textiles Show will be located in the Metropolitan Pavilion at 125 W. 18th St. GLM will extend its shuttle bus service between the Gift Fair's locations to include the luxury textiles event.
GLM expects about 200 exhibitors from Austria, Brazil, France, Germany, Canada, India, Israel, Italy, Japan, Peru, Portugal and Turkey. The Gift Fair draws about 10,000 attendees.
