Dan River Inks Maui & Sons License

By Michele SanFilippo -- Home Textiles Today, 10/17/2005

At the New York Market — Dan River has unveiled a juvenile licensing agreement with Maui & Sons, a 25-year-old surf apparel brand founded by two Hawaiian surfers now making their first foray into home.

Six panel-printed beds debuted that are equally geared to boys and girls in the teen to young adult age bracket.

In other news, Dan River launched an in-house brand called 24/7 geared to the college-age/20-something apartment dweller. Four prints are displayed catering to masculine and feminine tastes; two are executed on a microsuede base cloth.

Looks are designed to be easy care, and feature mid-weight fabrics and moderate price points as comforter sets or bed-in-a-bag ensembles. New print styles include Alberta, Gibbons, and Times Square and Eastwinds on microsuede.

In the Lilly Pulitzer collection, Dan River introduced: Harbor Cove, a sea life damask in a woven jacquard with raised relief in sky blue and white; Classic Lilly, a matelasse coverlet with scalloped edges in white or green; Paradise Patch, a floral patch duvet in sorbet colors with ribbon and lace; and a new Island Breeze white sheet with a one-inch embroidered hem. Also new are three-pack fingertip towels.

New in the Aviva license are: Gingko, with metallic accents and shimmer in a green tea colorway; Eucalyptus, a minimalist painterly look in raw silk in a buff colorway; and Shade, a stencil floral with a silk velvet look in a bark coloration.

The Country Living license features four new beds: Mackenzie Floral, a white hand-tufted pom pom embellished cottage look with a blue and white all-over mini floral quilt; Kaitlyn and April Flower, both inspired by antique floral documents; and Lexington Garden, an updated classic look in beige with ivory embroidery.

The Caribbean Joe collection offers four new styles: New Providence, Seawall, Tiki Hut and Grand Bahama.

New Providence is a chenille jacquard with overscale stylized paisley/floral motif in paprika on an ombre striped neutral ground. Seawall is an overscale leaf motif with a textured brush stroke in indigo blue. Tiki Hut is a textured tonal patchwork with an island feel.

Grand Bahama features botanical lilies on a grass cloth ground. Five new beach towel designs round out the collection.
