Shades of India Introduces Autumn/Winter Collection

By Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 10/3/2005

Palo Alto, Calif. —Shades of India, which won the award for best new home accessories product at the spring New York Home Textiles Show, recently introduced its new collection for autumn/winter 2005.

Overall, the line features a variety of textures as well as unusual combinations of fabrics and techniques. Fashion influences include pleating, embroidery and frayed edges.

The nine-year-old company's quilt collection includes Capsicum, a contemporary interpretation of patchwork that is hand-worked in silks and silk/cottons. Melody, inspired by Japanese dress, is made of crushed and crinkled silk in solid colors punctuated at regular intervals by a knotted cord. Tahiti, also influenced by Japanese motifs, is hand-quilted on a printed silk background.

In decorative pillows, Shades of India goes to town with texture. Dahab, Khawab and Palazzo combine several textures and colors in contrasting bands. Offerings in Kasbah interpret India's ancient bandini, or tie and dye, technique. Angkor pillows employ mushroo, a complicated and highly textured hand-woven silk fabric with a cotton underside once worn in India's royal courts.

In bed linens, table and window, Shades of India turns to natural forms for the season. Feather is inspired by the tracery of a leaf. Botany features leaf shapes and silhouettes.
