High Country to Open China Showroom

By Michele SanFilippo -- Home Textiles Today, 7/11/2005

Nanjing, China —By the end of August, High Country Linens will open a new 12,000-square-foot showroom at its newest factory here to showcase its full assortment of bedding and down-filled products during buyer previews.

The showroom will be housed inside a 700,000-square-foot cut-and-sew facility that was built a little over a year ago.

In addition, the company has two other factories in the Nanjing region that each consist of 150,000 square feet of manufacturing space. In total, the three factories use 2,300 sewing, quilting and embroidery machines, as well as process down-filled products via five production lines.

The company has the ability to manufacture 5.6 million sheet sets and 2 million down comforters, and process 2,300 tons of down per year. High Country Linens employs more than 2,800 associates in Nanjing with 120 management and design personnel.

“With the addition of our showroom, we will now have our complete product line on display, the necessary design staff available and sampling capability to work with individual accounts on their specific product development needs,” described Tom Ferrisi, vice president of marketing and sales at High Country Linens.

“It's an opportunity for buyers to break away and work in a very concentrated manner developing unique and distinctive product for their stores,” he added. Ferrisi continued that as buying groups visit them in China, it facilitates their understanding that they are buying direct from the factory.

High Country Linens currently offers more than 1,000 sheet designs in thread counts ranging from 300 to 500, including its newest line of continuous weave jacquards in florals, stripes, checks, Greek keys and other geometrics.

The weaving technique for sheets, duvets and down comforter shells was launched in the spring and carries new storybook vinyl packaging with an extra front panel for viewing the various designs woven into the sheet. Queen sets will retail from $69.99 to $99.99 at department and specialty stores starting this summer.
