TJX division promotes execs

Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 2/5/2001

FRAMINGHAM, MA -The TJX Cos., an off-price retailer of apparel and home fashions, has announced several senior management changes within The Marmaxx Group, the internal combination of T. J. Maxx and Marshalls.

Richard Lesser, who has held the position of president of The Marmaxx Group since 1995, has become chairman, where he will focus on the strategic growth of The Marmaxx Group as this division's store base continues to expand throughout the United States.

Lesser remains executive vp of TJX and a member of the board of directors of The TJX Cos.

Carol Meyrowitz has been promoted to president from her position of executive vp, merchandising, The Marmaxx Group, which she has held since February 2000. She becomes responsible for the day-to-day operations of The Marmaxx Group, a division that represents nearly 1,200 stores nationwide.

Ernie Herrman has been promoted to executive vp, merchandising, The Marmaxx Group, continuing to report to Meyrowitz. He was formerly senior vp, merchandising.

Arnold Barron continues in his position of executive vp and coo, The Marmaxx Group. However, he now reports to Meyrowitz instead of Lesser.

"I am very pleased with these changes in the Marmaxx senior management team," said Edmond English, president and ceo of The TJX Companies. "I am very confident that Carol and this very fine senior management team will lead Marmaxx to continued growth and success for many years to come."
