New chief at Spiegel Catalog

DOWNERS GROVE, IL -Melissa Payner has been promoted to president and ceo of Spiegel Catalog, a unit of The Spiegel Group.
Payner, 42, joined Spiegel in April 1997 as vp of merchandising and most recently served as senior vp responsible for all merchandising and advertising creative for the company. She also is a member of the corporate board of directors.
She succeeds John Irvin, who joined the company in 1996 and has resigned to pursue other interests. He also has resigned as a director of the company.
