Home Depot Enters Bath

By Cecile B. Corral -- Home Textiles Today, 5/2/2005

Atlanta — The Home Depot recently added for the first time bathroom textiles and accessories through its Web site and catalog.

As seen on pages 40 and 41 of its April mail order catalog, the company has added an unbranded solid color assortment in primarily neutral tones.

The current assortment comprises: a cotton machine-washable 72-by-72 shower curtain available in white for $19.99; plush 100 percent ring-spun cotton and extra long staple ribbed bath towel ensembles available in tan, white, peridot or ivory, set at $12.99 for the bath, $8.99 for the hand and $4.99 for the wash towels; a green and silvertone resin collection of bath accessories ranging in price from $14.99 to $39.99; and 21-by-34 cotton bath mats with non-skid backing available in white and cameo for $14.97.

The shower curtain, towels and bath mats are imported, the catalog points out.

The catalog also specifies that all of these items are available in the catalog and on the Internet site only.

The company plans to expand this assortment in the coming months with more products, said Terry Handelman, interactive marketing and eBusiness product merchant.

“The Home Depot has expanded its offerings of soft décor categories to include towels, bath accessories and furniture, including leather, upholstery and case goods,” she said. “The categories will be expanded throughout the coming months with additional items featured in subsequent catalogs.”
