Newport Moves Into Bath

By Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 4/25/2005

New York — Now that it is well acquainted with the bedroom through its top-of-bed collections, Newport Layton Home made its entrée into bath with the debut of six coordinate collections during the recent New York Home Textiles Market.

Each of the six sets comprises a shower curtain, bath rug, bath towel ensembles in two styles, and accessories.

Aside from these groups, the company is also offering free-standing shower curtains, rugs and accessories, with free-standing bath towel ensembles to be added to the line later this year, said Richard Tamblyn, design and marketing director for the bath, table linen and window treatment categories.

The six collections are: Fusion, a coral-and-honey on white ground tropical design; Tribal Arts, an ethnically inspired white, red, brown and neutral story; Rio, which features a brightly colored tropical fruit motif on a chocolate ground; Flat Iron, an architecturally inspired urban design in muted colors; Impulse, an organic and geometric pattern in blue, green and purple on a white ground; and Metallic Frond, a champagne and ivory metallic story centered on a palm frond motif.

All of the shower curtains are made of 100 percent cotton, except for Metallic Frond, which is a poly-cotton blend, and are imported from several overseas countries. The resin accessories that are part of the six coordinate collections come from China and the free-standing metal varieties come from India.

The bath rugs are made of 100 percent cotton and imported from India. And the bath towel ensembles come in two styles — full jacquards and embellished jacquards, all of which are made in Turkey.

As part of its effort to expand its offerings with more coordinate categories, the company also significantly built up its soft window offerings by 75 percent to include more cotton, polyester, sheer and silk styles with more embellishments, tassel tie-backs and valance treatments; table linens by 90 percent; and throws, which this market comprise about 20 styles in mohair, wool, basket-weave acrylic and faux fur constructions.

Also, the company has revamped its packaging. Goods are wrapped in a brown grosgrain ribbon that has a card stock hang tag that reads, “Fine Linens by Newport Layton.”
