Donna Rolls Out Opening Sheet Sets

By Michele SanFilippo -- Home Textiles Today, 4/25/2005

New York — Donna Karan Home has created two DKNY opening price solid sheet set and top-of-bed programs, redefined Pure, added a twin/full convertible size in Play and launched a DKNY embellished bath program in towels, shower curtains and mats.

“Fashion bedding has been the driving force of our business, but while we are grateful for this, we have realized that we need to balance out the peaks and valleys of that business by developing product and price points that will help fill in the everyday needs of the retailer and consumer,” explained Patsy Pollack, CEO of Donna Karan Home.

The solid sheet set and top-of-bed program encompasses two styles in four color stories that facilitate mixing and matching. The opening price sheet set ($99 queen) is Twill Stitch, which has contrast jean stitching and piping on a cotton twill in a light to dark story that is reversible on quilts, duvets and shams. The step-up sheet set ($139 queen) is Crocheted Edge, where the look is very clean with delicate hand-crocheted trims and tie closures. The program offers sheet sets, open stock quilts, duvets and shams in combos of moss and clover, mulberry and plum, tigerlilly and garnet, and moonlight and sky.

The company has also relaunched DKNY Pure to give it a more relaxed, worn and comfortable look with three groups of bedding and bath products in white and ivory. They are Pure Basic, Pure Rustic and Pure Utilitarian.

Pure Basic, the foundation of the collection, features small flanges, red stitching, French cuffs and functional buttons on a cotton linen blend paired with a sand dollar matelasse.

Pure Rustic is a washed, smocked dobby weave with a jean stitch and small surprise details such as twill tape, buttons and stitching.

Pure Utilitarian is cotton with silk tape and jean stitching plus sheeting that has twill tape and red stitching on the hem.

In Pure bed skirts, there is a double ruffle design, a sand dollar matelasse and a look with twill tape and tie closures. Shower curtains also pick up on the twill, stitching and cotton voile. In addition, Pure Periwinkle, a new textured solid bath towel inspired by knit sweaters, has been added in 10 colors.

The new DKNY embellished bath program features four styles in three colors on towels, tub mats and shower curtains.

The looks are an all-over embroidered floral, a stitched bow motif, an ethnic embroidered hem and a delicate embroidered vine.

In DKNY fashion bedding, four patterns have been introduced: City Charm, Urban Antique, City Shadow and Urban Fedora. City Charm is inspired by the resurgence of metallics with golden spirals and swirls on a white ground, a satin quilt and shams, plus a ruffled sheet.

Urban Antique takes inspiration from vintage wallpaper with a print on a slub ground that's faded in certain spots paired with a dramatic embroidered border in cappuccino. City Shadow features dark dramatic blues in an Asian-inspired tone-on-tone with floral accents.

Urban Fedora offers a feminine menswear plaid accented by mini pleats and bands of hot pink stitching plus a floral sheet.

In Donna Karan New York Collection bedding, the look features city-inspired fabrics on three beds that revert back to the company's design roots: Waterlilly, Gold Leaf and Midnight.

Waterlilly is inspired by a kimono in earth tones on silk with hand-guided embroidery as well as hand stitching on the matte silk quilt. Gold Leaf features panels of elaborate burnished metallic thread embroidery on a neutral ground of sateen, silk and velvet strips.

Midnight is a contemporary black and blue geometric design inspired by a 1920s dressing gown.
