Window Highlights Park Introductions

By Carole Sloan -- Home Textiles Today, 4/11/2005

At the New York Market — A major expansion of window coverings with new fabrics, embellishments, tailoring treatments and materials highlights the introductions at Park B. Smith Ltd. this week.

In addition, the company is featuring a fashion-driven collection of solid color rugs using either Egyptian cotton or New Zealand wool, mixed with cotton rugs in novelty designs and trims.

In bedding, aubergine and field (green) are key colors, seen in an especially dramatic way in Optics. Other key colors across the product mix include fuchsia and teal.

In windows, the Tuscany range of panels includes such novelty effects as Fru Fru with self-ruffled embellishment, St. Tropez with bead trim, and Nice which features embroidery. Fru Fru is $16.99, the others are $9.99 for the 84-inch.

Top treatments expand on the company's patented Magic Blind construction. A quilted version and the Miller chenille are among the introductions. The Miller chenille is $49.99.

New window fabrics include canvas, the Miller chenille, colored bamboo, Cortina texture and a contemporary damask —Tangled Lines.

In bedding, Hepburn, influenced by classic Asian design, is featured in blue and white.

Optics sets the tone for the major color story throughout all product categories — aubergine and field green.

Window fabrics from the Tuscany collection in many cases are translated into shower curtain fabrications with similar embellishment and trims. A stand-alone shower curtain, window and rug coordinate is Slicker, a coated fabric featured in an array of brights. The fabric is wipable and does not require a liner for the shower curtain that hangs from large grommets.

In rugs, color and fiber are the key elements. Cairo, an Egyptian cotton rug in 32 colors, starts at $19.99. Cairo coordinates with stripes and geometrics in cotton.

Aukland, a New Zealand wool rug, is featured in 20 colors with a new 40-by-40-inch square and runners in 20-by-72-inch and 20-by-34-inch sizes. The opening size is $29.99. Other rugs include a ribbed multi-colored style with velvet trim.

Kitchen textiles are featured in coordinates with wine themes being one of the major design elements including Vino Labels, Crates of Wine and Rustic Cafe. Mats, napkins, shopping bags, and wine bags are part of the mix.

In solid color mats, a beaded edge solid is a fashion leader in 12 colors.
