Maples Rugs Goes 'Soft'

By Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 4/11/2005

At the New York Market —Looking to do the “unexpected” this market, Maples Rugs has shifted its design focus in a “soft modern” and contemporary direction, and carried that look onto new synthetic constructions for both its accent and bath offerings, said Pat Maples, co-owner and director of design.

“We wanted to have a fresh look,” Maples continued, describing the new palette created for these collections, which stresses an aqua blue Maples calls “pool,” as well as other pop colors that are paired with neutrals in geometric and retro patterns.

New accent rug collections include: a newly developed nylon-and-olefin blend level cut-loop construction in 15 patterns and six colorways of two-color combinations – a neutral nylon ground with a pop-color olefin design; textured print rugs available in more than 20 patterns; and three new shag styles available in about 10 color combinations.

The bath category's new additions are “a departure from the traditional solid color” offerings, said Wade Maples, co-owner and president. “The market today is more about pattern and texture and less about solid.” New offerings include multi-colored looks and tonal patterns in synthetic and cotton constructions.

Retail price points are set for accent rugs at $24.99 for a 2-by-3 and $49.99 for a 3-by-5, and for bath rugs at $19.99 for a 21-by-34.

The company also recently remodeled its showroom, located in the second floor of 295 Fifth Ave., to set a better backdrop for its new collections.
