Calvin Highlights Color in Collections

Designs Reflect Influence of the East in Apparel

By Carole Sloan -- Home Textiles Today, 4/11/2005

At the New York Market — More color, and intricate piecing of fabrics are highlights of the new Calvin Klein Home collections for fall.

Fig, grape, bronze, copper, indigo and cinnamon are among the new fashion accents working within the signature Calvin Klein palette. Both color and design inspiration reflect the influence of the East, especially in apparel.

Expanding its solid color sheet program this season is a program in a woven cotton twill, finished with a simple blanket stitch hem detail. The fitted sheet features a 16-inch pocket and tunneled elastic all around. The 400-count sheet comes in eight colors at $89 for the queen. Also new is a free-standing duvet cover/sham program, Pinstripe Pucker, to work with the solid color cotton percale sheet program. The engineered pucker texture is layered over delicate pinstripes in cream and neutral printed on 280-count white sateen.

The Tailored Band percale 400-count Supima cotton is offered in white and cream.

Six new beds in Calvin Klein Collection include Sakura, a mix of bronze, cinnamon, copper and amber with the duvet cover featuring a pieced floral jacquard design inspired by a kimono pattern.

The sheeting reflects the influence of an Indian border design.

Decorative pillows include metallic accents. The queen yarn-dyed sheet retails for $90; the queen duvet cover retails for $350.

In Orchids, single blossoms in shades of grape and figs move from foot to head of the bed, becoming lighter as they disperse on the textured ground. The sheeting is a printed coordinate with a ripple texture motif.

In Reptilian, a pieced duvet cover with a cotton crepe base and a vertical inset panel of sateen is mated to a yarn-dyed cotton in deep greens and golds. The queen sheet is $75; the duvet is $350.

In bath, Collection features a new tub mat for the Luxe towel as well as a robe that retails for $99. New towel colors are water, mulberry, silt, lily and shitake for the $29.99 Lush towel, and mink, blossom, spice, peridot, and beryl for the $19.99 core towel.

In Khaki, four new beds have been added as well as a solid color Desert Band quilt and Cord Weave yarn-dyed quilt for each of the beds.

Marwari, inspired by an Indian turban, is shown in faded vegetable dye colors with the Water Plaid yarn-dyed sheet in a washed plaid design. The queen duvet cover is $170.

In Palomino, woven neutral stripes have larger stripes on the bottom and smaller on the top of the duvet cover, with shots of chartreuse against the wicker ground.
