High-tech fabrics hit decorative market

NEW YORK -High-tech fabrics are coming in to the decorative fabrics community.
The most recent is the introduction of Creations Metaphores, a French firm that is part of Hermes, the luxury goods conglomerate. The collection is being distributed exclusively by Donghia Furniture/Textiles in the United States.
Using new technology that fuses an Ondine, a base cloth of polymide (a member of the nylon family of fibers) spun and fused, the collection then moves into a number of different constructions creating exotic looks.
Among them is Demoiselle, a double faced non-woven sheer with unique effects and Chrysalide, a fusion of the base cloth with an iridescent taffeta.
Other fabrications include Pise, a washable, double-width, all-polyester casement, and Venise, which adds a plisse effect to the base cloth.
The collection has 62 fabrications, and most are under $30 per yard wholesale.
This is the first time that Donghia has been involved with the marketing, selling and distributing of another brand or collection of fabrics.
