Northrup, Industry Player, Dies

Longtime Stevens Exec Retired 12 Years Ago

By Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 3/28/2005

New York —Industry veteran Ted Northrup, associated throughout his long industry career with two companies —J.P. Stevens and later The Bibb Co. — died March 14 at the age of 69.

During a long career in the textiles industry during its free-wheeling heyday, Northrup was a senior marketing executive at Stevens, and later became an executive at The Bibb Co., when pieces of the Stevens business were sold to Bibb after it was acquired by WestPoint Pepperell.

Northrup grew up in Maywood, N.J., and was an alumnus of Mount Herman School, Colgate University and the Harvard PMD Business School. He spent most of his life in Maplewood, N.J., where he and his wife, Valerie, raised two children.

After retiring 12 years ago, Northrup moved to Seven Lakes West, N.C., where he enjoyed golf, fishing and living on the lake. He was involved in the Golf Capital Chorus, local theater and the West Side Landowners Association.

Besides his wife of 47 years, Valerie Northrup, he leaves a son, Curtis Northrup of Lawrenceville, Ga.; a daughter, Leslie Long of Mendham, N.J.; a sister, Dorothy Ducate of Aiken, S.C.; and four grandchildren.
