Ebisons Harounian to expand lines and space

By Andrea Lillo -- Home Textiles Today, 11/13/2000

NEW YORK -For the January Atlanta International Rug Market, Ebisons Harounian Imports will introduce antique-inspired looks for both its new and existing collections, which include imported rugs from India, China, Pakistan, Turkey, Afghanistan, Nepal and Iran. In addition, the company plans to expand its warehousing facilities here.

Four rug collections will be highlighted at Atlanta. From India, Reflections is a comprehensive collection of antique adaptations of Agra, Mahal and Sutanabad designs in gold and bronze hues. The rugs are in a 9/9 (knots per square inch) Jaipur construction. A 6 by 9 will retail for $2,399.

From China, the Golden Horizon collection will consist of Sino Persian designs in 160, 200 and 230 knots per linear foot. A 6 by 9 will retail for $999.

From Tibet and Nepal, the Kathmandu collection, a fashion-forward series of transitional, Savonneri and wild life motifs, will also debut, and will range in size from 6 by 9 to 12 by 15. A 6 by 9 will retail for $1,199.

Peshawar replicates the antique looks of Zeigler Mahal and Sultanabads made by Afghani refugees in Pakistan. A 6 by 9 will retail for $1,599.

The existing Tara program from India, wool hand-tufted rugs that are part of the affordarug group, will have new colors and designs, offered in 5 by 8 and 8 by 11 sizes. A 5 by 8 will retail for $299.

In addition, the company is negotiating to expand its warehouse to an additional floor at its present location of 44 East 32nd St. in New York City. The additional 10,000 square feet of space would be dedicated to its affordarug division, which services the company's big box accounts.

"This is becoming a major category for us and it deserves its own space," said Michael Harounian, partner. The company is currently housed in 20,000 square feet of space.
