New VP to Lead Merchandise Initiative

By Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 12/20/2004

St. Louis — The May Department Stores Company has named Steven Nevill to the newly created position of senior vice president, inventory management.

His appointment is effective Jan. 17, and he will report to John Dunham, May's president.

In this new position, Nevill will lead the implementation of the company's new merchandise planning and allocation initiative, which will begin in early 2005.

Gene Kahn, May's chairman and CEO, said, “Steve will work with our department store divisions as they add a planner/allocator structure to their organizations, and he will oversee implementation of new tools and systems to help provide more tightly edited merchandise assortments with improved allocations at the individual-store level.”

Dunham said: “(Steve) has exceptional knowledge and experience in the field of inventory management and will bring tremendous expertise to help us implement our new merchandise planning and allocation initiative.”

Nevill joins May from Kurt Salmon Associates (KSA), a global management consulting firm, where he was national director for growth and profitability services with responsibility for all consulting regarding strategy and merchandising services. Prior to joining KSA, Nevill was the chief information officer at a start-up specialty retailer and also has held an executive position with a privately held global retailer.
