Petunia Petunia's Baby Line Blooms

By Michele SanFilippo -- Home Textiles Today, 11/15/2004

Ocean Grove, N.J. —Petunia Petunia, a new company with a contemporary twist on infant and juvenile bedding, bloomed onto the New York home textiles scene this past October straight from the imagination of designer/founder Alessandra Lopez-Kiely.

Petunia Petunia's first collection, It's All About You Baby, targets specialty home stores and higher-end department stores with boutique concepts. Initial items in plush cashmere, silk/cashmere/cotton blends, cotton knits with bold designs and graphic quilted patterns on Egyptian cotton should be in stores by year's end and via www.petuniapetunia.com.

“The premise for me doing this was to offer parents more vibrant colors than just the typical pastels in the marketplace,” said Lopez-Kiely. “What I think is different about Petunia Petunia is that it is more contemporary but with a home spun feel.”

The line has four designs of crib bumpers composed of four pieces with ties that can grow with the child in two colors each, plus matching quilts, fitted sheets, quilted bed skirts and boudoir pillows, all in 220-count Egyptian cotton. Plus there are two cotton high chair pads in three colors, nine cotton knit blankets, two embellished crochet blankets, one cashmere blanket in two colors, two wool and angora blankets in two colors, and two cotton, silk and cashmere blend blankets. Most blankets are reversible.

The company will ultimately offer bedding, accessories and party items for children from newborns to tweens and even adults. Twin and full size quilts and standard shams will be added to the line by spring. “Petunia Petunia is committed to providing a whimsical-chic and practical solution for mommies and daddies without the ongoing expense of drastic décor changes as the child grows,” added Lopez-Kiely.

Lopez-Kiely previously worked at Sferra Brothers as director of marketing and advertising for three years, and at Martha Stewart Omnimedia for over two years as buyer for e-commerce and catalog. Prior to that, she was at ABC Carpet & Home for about a year as a third-floor bed linen buyer.
