Tencel Sees Future

By Carole Sloan -- Home Textiles Today, 11/1/2004

New York —Light, color, surface, pattern and product are the key issues for home furnishings for fall/winter 2005/2006.

At the same time, “We are living in an era that is moving so fast, the trends are almost over at once,” remarked Jo-An Jenkins, publisher/editor-in-chief of Jenkins UK which prepared the forecast for Tencel.

Discussing the impact of light on home fashions, Jenkins pointed to five elements — sensual, atmospheric, shadowed, silhouetted and receptive — as influencing fabric colors and textures. Each of these can break up pattern, create emotion or create seductive sensual effects, she said.

Color will be developed from a broader point of view than before, embracing a range from uplifting to the obscure which involves a startling approach to bringing colors together.

A “naughty” approach is taking blues into the tonal range occupied by pinks and corals, Jenkins said. And for chromophobes, she says there will be a cautious, more gentle approach to color.
