Ralph Lauren Seeks Shelter for Spring

By Carole Sloan -- Home Textiles Today, 11/1/2004

New York —Shelter Island, the most elaborate of the Lauren by Ralph Lauren ensembles for spring 2005, evokes an aura of elegant, luxury country living.

The ensemble, one of four in the label's new grouping, features a vintage washed cotton ticking stripe and a patchwork quilt print combination for the duvet cover, a 370-count cotton sateen printed sheet, and a percale sheet with a scalloped hem and hemstitch detail. Accessory items include cable knit throws and blankets, embroidered and printed pillows and a layered sheer organza sham.

Beachside Preppy, a colorful melange of lemon, royal blue, red and green, uses a 350-count Supima cotton stripe for the sheets and duvet cover. A paisley print also is featured in sheets and the duvet cover. Accessories include a terry pillow, knitted stripe pillows and shams in yellow and royal blue canvas.

Three towels at $24.99, in four colors each, are featured in a bold dobby stripe, a regatta stripe and an umbrella stripe in Beachside Preppy, as well as a cable with a multi-color dobby and a multi-stripe at $29.99.

A cotton/linen blend fabric in a damask print is the duvet cover in The Landing, an ensemble with East Indian inspiration in indigo and raffia colorations. A paisley sheet in 350-count Supima cotton and a basketweave blanket are important elements. The Landing also features five towels at $19.99 for the bath along with shower curtains.

Watermill features a gingham with a shirting stripe reverse as the duvet cover with a gingham sham in an overall color palette of yellow, rose and green. The sheets are 350-count Supima cotton.

Towels in Watermill are a stripe with a scallop edge and Rose Floral, both at $19.99.

Shelter Island, the top of the line, is $79.99 for the queen sheet, $279.99 for the top of the bed. The other three styles are $49.99 for the queen sheets, $249.99 for the top of the bed.
