New materials, production managers named at cmi

By Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 7/26/2004

PAWTUCKET, R.I. — cmi (Colonial Mills Inc.), a manufacturer of braided-texture rugs and accessories, recently appointed Donald Minchello Jr. and Federico Read to the newly created positions of materials manager and production manager, respectively.

The company has also expanded its information technology department and with that has created two additional new posts — naming William Turgeon as chief information officer and Jonathan Garniss as EDI specialist/technical support.

As materials manager, Minchello is responsible for the control of inventory, purchasing of all yarn, fillers and fabrics, the negotiating of contracts and forecasting materials needs. Prior to cmi, Minchello was desktop support analyst for Perot Systems at Harvard Pilgrim Health Care, and before that risk management assistant at TAC Worldwide Companies.

Read's responsibilities as production manager — second shift — include reinforcing the company's existing open book management and manufacturing practices, training and developing the production team and ensuring that schedules and quality standards are met. Read previously held a number of production supervisor and management positions with Serta Mattress Co., Inc. and Protective Technologies International Inc.

Turgeon, as chief information officer, is responsible for providing planning and development, evaluation, delivery and operation of the companies information and technology systems, including voice, data, communications and office automation. Formerly, he was director of information systems for Possible Dreams Ltd. and manager of manufacturing applications for Toray Plastics America Inc.

As EDI specialist/technical support, Garniss sets up, maintains and manages the performance of Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) transactions with all customers and provides technical support for software and network servers. Previously, he worked as an EDI Consultant for EDI Specialists and EA Consulting.
