Abyss jazzes up towels for show

By Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 6/14/2004

WINDSOR, N.J. — Portuguese-based luxury bath towel manufacturer Abyss will be introducing Jazz, a two-tone contrast bias towel, during the New York International Gift Fair, held Aug. 15 to 19 at the Jacob Javits Center.

A 500-gram, 100 percent Egyptian cotton loop towel, Jazz is durable, absorbent and low-lint, said the company, adding that the towels tend to be lighter, more fluid and dry faster than others. Due to a production and finishing process developed by Abyss, the bias shrinks at the same rate as the towel, preventing puckering from taking place, Abyss said.

Jazz is available in seven color variations: dark brown with light blue bias; powder blue with dark brown bias; powder blue with light green bias; light green with powder blue bias; linen with pink bias; pink with linen bias; and platinum with pink bias.

Retail prices are suggested at $15.75 for washcloths, $29.25 for hand towels, $63 for bath towels, $117 for bath sheets and $40.50 for tub mats.

"We're trying to impart some fun and fashion into the bathroom," said Steven Drew, director of design, marketing and retail development at Abyss. "These designs (are) an accessory and a practical, everyday towel that will provide an updated, fresh look when used with our solids."

He added that the towels also coordinate with sister company Habidecor's classic Must, Reversible, Romantic and Chinoise bath rug designs, as well as the company's Custom Creations line.
