Miller moves to Sesame Street

Designer to work with company to develop bedding and room decor items

By Cecile B. Corral -- Home Textiles Today, 6/7/2004

NEW YORK — Designer Nicole Miller recently teamed up with Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit educational organization behind Sesame Street, to develop a new apparel collection for newborns, infants and toddlers.

Launching next year, the collection's future line extensions include bedding and room décor items, such as rugs, window treatments and wall décor.

Titled "Sesame Street by Nicole Miller," the apparel collection will roll out to department stores nationwide in spring 2005. The apparel uses unique patterns featuring Sesame Street characters Zoe, Elmo, Grover and Cookie Monster. The boy, girl and holiday patterns depict contemporary themes such as New York City taxis, shopping, Western motifs and fairies. A proprietary stripe incorporating Nicole Miller's signature coordinates are showcased throughout the collection.

While the development of the apparel collection is already under way, Sesame Workshop is actively looking for potential home textiles supplier licensees to produce the future offerings of bedding and soft room decor items.

"For 35 years, children have come to know and love the Sesame Street characters. We're now working with Nicole Miller, an icon in the fashion industry, to create designs that have a fresh, fashion-forward look," said Tamra Seldin, vice president of marketing, Sesame Workshop. " 'Sesame Street by Nicole Miller brings together the fun of the show and the humor and colorfulness of our characters with Nicole's unique sense of style in a beautiful, unexpected way."

Added Miller: "We have translated the characters and their personalities into adorable prints that are perfect for both infants and toddlers. I look forward to designing more Sesame prints in the future!"
