Divatex mixes looks, shows coordinated jacquards

Company's sheeting for fall features rich colors, different hem treatments

By Michele SanFilippo -- Home Textiles Today, 4/12/2004

NEW YORK — Aside from its new Shag license for bedding, bath and beach towels, Divatex placed strong emphasis on jacquard bedding ensembles at the recent New York Home Textiles Market with five display beds and a wall of up to 16 additional patterns.

The company has also developed fiber-reactive printed sheeting designed to match the Italian-designed master-bedroom jacquards featuring some chenille looks and some flat wovens, in 300- to 400-count Egyptian cotton. Products will be sold as comforter sets or bed-in-a-bag ensembles.

In addition, Divatex showed a corduroy and duck bed with burlap accents, contrast stitching and small grommeted panels. A cabana stripe sheet was also layered into the bed. According to executives, the company has been working with corduroy quite a bit this season. Divatex has also been emphasizing high-quality faux fur looks, showing at least 20 styles on a wall display mixing fun, funky and more conservative looks.

Other important looks were an organza bed with an embroidered contemporary geometric pattern, and a velvet burnout bed featuring a solid-color pattern with white background in the center, both shown in two colors. A 100 percent sateen weave modal bed with pleating accents and Venetian lace trim was also featured.

As for sheeting, Divatex featured rich colors for fall, including turquoise, coral and chocolate brown. The company also offered a cotton modal blend in all colors and a 400-count sateen weave in wintry colors. Plus, Divatex is offering several different hem treatments and fabrications, including jacquards. Company officials say modal has been important in many areas of sheeting.

In Divatex's Joseph Abboud license, four new beds were introduced along with a new sporty line and a few separates such as blankets. The new bedding patterns are Samara, Cimmaron, Sandrift and Talisman.

Samara is an olive and plum look on cotton framed by mini pleats with contrast stitching and paired with Almaz, a 400-count mini-scroll sheet in olive. Cimmaron is a faux suede pattern with arrow stitch quilting in nutmeg with chocolate and burgundy striped sateen sheeting. Sandrift is a microsuede look with a cross section panel in a new chocolate colorway. Talisman features brown and navy asymmetric stripes with metallic accents paired with an overscale paisley sheet in a new navy brown colorway.

Other new items in Joseph Abboud included a new sporty line of duvets, shams, skirts and top-of-bed items. In this line are Torino, a casual poly-viscose look with some pleating, and Amalfi, a cotton twill pattern in rust and brown tones with leather rope accents. Blankets were also new this past market and shown on two of the beds. They are available in four colors.

Also new is Cirrus, an embroidered quilt plus dec pillows in microsuede featuring soft chain link embroidery in fawn and slate colorways. Additionally, a new colorway, aubergine, has been added to the Joseph Abboud Signature 400-count dobby-stripe sateen solid-color sheet program.
