Croscill unveils Jonathan Adler line

By Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 4/5/2004

NEW YORK — Croscill rolled out its new co-branded Jonathan Adler license in bath at last week's New York Home Textiles Market, showing several contemporary looks that include bath accessories, towels, shower curtains and rugs.

The company also expanded its solid-color Mist program to include two sheeting constructions and several coverlets, throws, duvets and comforters in up to 10 colors, including five new autumnal hues.

Some of the additions to the Mist program, dubbed Autumn Mist for the new darker tones, include: a swirl coverlet, satin coverlet, microsuede boxed coverlet, Shetland duvet, pom pom throw in 11 colors, chevron chenille throw in up to nine colors, cable knit throw, chenille stripe throw and lightweight menswear throw. In sheeting, there was a plain 250-count program and 350-count sheet with an attached hem and satin ribbon. Autumn Mist could be viewed on the lower level showroom featuring a "good, better, best" duvet wall.

The new Jonathan Adler license featured solid-color Signature Lacquerware items combined with patterned pieces that are very modern and typical of his retro-funky design aesthetic. In addition, toothbrush holders have been designed with wider openings to fit larger battery-operated brushes.

Some of the new patterns include: B Spoke, a geometric circular bubble design offered in white, black and platinum; and Stripes, a two-toned striped look featuring more fluid shapes influenced by Adler's vase designs offered in white and baby blue, white and natural, white and lilac, and black and brown stripes. There is also a natural stone-wear look that hasn't been named yet, featuring a stacked clay strip motif and a futuristic embroidered shower curtain.

Also included in the line are two patterns of lightweight peva vinyl shower curtain in a variety of colors. The new patterns are Ripples and Pop Grid. Carl Legreca, Croscill's vice president of merchandising and marketing for bath, said the initial Adler line has been generating a lot of attention from retailers.

"We will continue to co-brand where the brand brings distinct design to the table, as is the case with Jonathan Adler," said David Kahn, Croscill's president and CEO. "However, Croscill is still the mainstay of our products, so we will continue to drive the brand and explore new product categories. At our company, it will always come down to design and offering a diverse range of lifestyles."

In bath, Croscill will also feature six patterns in its Croscill-branded line: Shaved Ice, Verbena, Essex, Empire Venezia, Princeton and Stratford.

In bedding, 24 new patterns have been introduced that range from patchworks to geometric contemporary looks, to paisleys, florals, Asian-inspired designs, microsuede shearling combos and animal prints on chenille. A major focus is being put on duvets and patterns, featuring a mix of textures, colors and constructions.

In window, 30 different panels were shown that featured such fabrications as velvet, chevron chenille, matelasse, embroidered sheer, jacquard, discharge-print corduroy, embossed faux leather, poly satin, raised jacquard and microsuede mesh.
