Disney throws Northwest a license

By Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 3/22/2004

NEW YORK — The Northwest Company, a diversified producer of throws and blankets, has added the Walt Disney license in throws to a growing roster of licensed sports and novelty looks.

A broad range of classic Disney looks and movie tie-ins will be shown at the company's 295 Fifth Ave. showroom during the New York Home Textiles Market.

"Among classic Disney motifs will be Mickey Mouse and friends. And that presentation is supplemented by a range of newer looks," said Stanley Mieszkowski, vice president of sales and marketing, including The Disney Princesses, Winnie the Pooh, Finding Nemo, Tinker Bell and Lizzie McGuire.

"More importantly," he added, the new Disney line-up "also includes all of the new things that will be happening, like The Incredibles, which retailers are already buying for fall 2004."

To celebrate the new license, the company is hosting a Disney party in its showroom from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Monday, March 29.

In recent years, The Northwest Company has driven strong double-digit sales growth through a growing portfolio of licensed looks, including major league team sports and Nascar. Other licensed looks being shown at market include a tie-in with the new Spiderman movie being released this summer, Dora The Explorer and Blues Clues from Nickelodeon.

The best-selling Spongebob Squarepants franchise is supplemented with several new designs this week in throws ranging from fleece construction to printed-raschel knits.
