Richloom gains license for Claiborne collection

By Carole Sloan -- Home Textiles Today, 7/28/2003

NEW YORK— Richloom Fabrics Group has become the decorative fabric licensee for the Liz Claiborne Home collection.

Under the agreement, Richloom will provide the fabrics for Lexington Home Brands, the newly named furniture licensee, as well as offer a broad range of Liz Claiborne fabrics for the retail and jobbing distribution channels.

The license for Richloom is "its first venture in licensing in almost a decade," according to Jim Richman, president. "We see Liz as a tremendous brand, and a tremendous opportunity," he added.

The brand, which ranks high in consumer recognition in apparel, "has a comfortable look," he added.

"We're developing a comprehensive design program with an eclectic, integrated mix from sheers and drapery weights, to prints, jacquards and plain wovens," Richman said. Price points are expected to range from $5.95 to $9.95. "We will source as necessary — through our own vertical supply, through domestic suppliers and globally as needed."

The fabric collection will launch at retail in February/March 2004 and the fabric and furniture will be shown by Lexington Home Brands for the April 2004 International Home Furnishings Market in High Point, NC. Distribution for the furniture will be to select department stores and fine furniture stores.

American Pacific has the license for Liz Claiborne bed and bath, and in August 2002, Liz Claiborne announced its rugs, carpeting, ceramic and wood flooring license with Carpet One, a retailer with more than 1,000 units.
