Shaw bows Folkworks, pads Bahama collection

By Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 4/28/2003

DALTON, GA — Shaw Rugs launched several new collections — including Native American folk inspired and new additions to the Tommy Bahama licensed line — during the High Point market earlier this month.

The area rug supplier partnered with the Museum of New Mexico to create six rugs for the Folkworks collection, which features designs adapted from authentic textiles of many cultures found in the world-renowned Museum of International Folk Art, Museum of New Mexico in Santa Fe. Made from machinewoven wool, all of the Folkworks designs are rendered in antique colors. One style, Lapaz, is a striped pattern available in red multi and green. Shira is a multicolored diamond pattern with a Northwest Persian influence. The suggested retail price for a 5' x 8' is $799.99.

Shaw also continued building on its expanded Tommy Bahama collection with the addition of several new styles of both handmade and machinemade wool rugs.

The 10 handmade rugs feature images of pineapples and palm fronds in amber and gold. These rugs are hand-crafted from 100 percent wool with silk highlights and hand carving. Examples include Striped Tease, a pattern of floating fronds on a paneled background, and Sign of the Times, bouquets of flowers and foliage in neutral tones. The suggested retail price for a 5' x 8' is $1,000.

The 10 machinemade rugs offer casual elegance in two categories: traditional and tropical. The traditional styles blend classic patterns with tropical motifs — like Pineapple Lane, a pineapple and leaf design in gold and amber, and Treasure Chest, a bold tropical border design with leaves and flowers scattered over a rich field of either black or espresso. The suggested retail price for a 5' x 8' is $900.
