Neuburger masters bedroom looks

By Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 4/28/2003

BOCA RATON, FL — Karen Neuburger is working on multiplication.

A year after moving her bedding license to Hollander Home Fashions, the sleepwear designer has expanded into more straight-on master bedroom looks, expanded the number of beds in the line and is looking to broaden placements at retail as well.

"People are seeing the evolution and the ability to bring in multiple beds now," Neuburger told HTT. "And they're having faith in the flow."

Known for print-grounded and woven Californian cottage casual or Southern casual designs, the Neuburger line under Hollander branched into crashed velvets, piqué cloths, jacquards and suedes.

"It's for the first time what I feel is really, really master bedroom," Neuburger said. "But it's still on the casual side and still taking its inspiration directly from the sleepwear line."

Neuburger also said she is pulling more home into her in-store party events, which raise money for charity. And, she sees more retail interest in cross-merchandising some home items — such as the Karen Neuburger breast cancer awareness pillow — around her sleepwear displays.

Among the new master-directed introductions during spring market was Tea Garden, an opulent tonal silky jacquard ensemble with sprays of stylized flowers and a whiff of Asian influence. A crashed velvet miter surrounds the top of bed and embellishes accent pillows.

Pavilion is a linen comforter ensemble featuring embroidered tossed blooms, with lavender and rosewood blossoms strewn across an open field. The bed is also offered as a duvet on a shimmery stain cloth.

Tender Blooms features camel and black textural weaves on a merlot ground in a modern, minimalist motif offset by a cabernet textured suede miter. The reverse features a stria texture, while the bed skirt employs delicate rosewood and lavender mist bouquets on a warm toast ground.
