FIT awards at Waldorf

Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 3/31/2003

AT THE NEW YORK MARKET The Fashion Institute of Technology will hold its seventh annual Scholarship Awards breakfast Tuesday, April 1, to support the college's Home Products Development program. The event, which honors industry leaders and raises funds for student scholarships, will be held from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. at the Waldorf-Astoria hotel.

This year's honorees include Bill Kilbride, president, Mohawk Home, who will receive the Industry Leader of the Year Award. David Sabin, chairman, Salton Inc., will receive the Outstanding Achievement Award, and Laura Sen, former executive vp, BJ's Wholesale Club, will receive the Retailer of the Year Award. Ian Gittlitz, ceo and president, and Cynthia Evans, senior vp, both of Institute of Corporate Directors, will each receive the Humanitarian Award.

The breakfast chair for the event is Leonard Florence, Syratech Corporation. Co-chairs are Carl Goldstein, senior vp, S. Lichtenberg; Lester Gribetz, vp, home fashions, Bloomingdale's; and Peter Scotese, chairman emeritus of FIT's board of trustees.

The program in Home Products Development is the only one of its kind in the country.

Developed with the assistance of alumni and members of the home furnishings industry, the program consists of courses in product development, product knowledge and marketing specific to the home products industry, both in hardlines (furnishings and accessories) and softlines (textiles) classifications.
