Springs' brings new order in the Court

AT THE NEW YORK MARKET — The Court of Versailles has reconvened, this time under license to Spring Industries after a two-decade run at Pillowtex. The new Court has thrown off much of the flourish that characterized its previous incarnation in favor of a fabrication-driven design story —and some enhanced price points.

The collection has also deepened its product offerings under Springs, with a full range of bath products as well as rugs, window treatments, basic bedding and infant bedding completing the assortment.

"It really has a concept and a total image now," said Hermine Mariaux, president of Hermine Mariaux Inc., an international licensing and concept marketing firm that is the agent for the Court of Versailles license. "And Springs has the ammunition to go at it ad-infinitum."

The line is offering in queen and king sizes only, and includes two core solid color sheet offerings: a 500-count sateen at an $89.99 retail for a queen flat sheet, and a 220-count cotton/linen blend at a $69.99 retail for a queen flat sheet, said Springs' Nancy Webster, senior vp, creative development. The core palette consists of three families of color: pales, blue/browns and reds.

In addition, two jacquard sheet programs coordinate with the top-of-bed collections. Two sheet programs coordinate with the pattern: Marie, a 51/49 silk/cotton blend that retails at $89.99 for a queen sheet; and Therese, a 300-count yarn-dyed jacquard that retails at $59.99.

Other solid color bedding components that layer in throughout the collection include the Dubarry reversible silk quilt at a $269 retail, the Dubarry throw, an all-cotton construction with silk binding that retails at $125, and silk pile blanket with silk binding offering in several core colorways.

"It's all about indulgence and embraceable, livable product," Webster told HTT.

The program was launched with two windows: Therese, mimicking the sheeting pattern in a larger scale, combines white pigment printing and a burnout; and Dubarry, an embroidered linen pleated at the top and bottom of the panel. Those constructions carry over into shower curtains.

The open stock duvet program includes Pompador, a panel embroidery top of bed; and Valois, a jacquard damask with appliqued silks and velvets in a frame format that pairs with a silk dust ruffle and sham. The extra layer includes a reversible silk quilt with a tonal sauterne/mocha color story that retails at $269 queen. The Anthennais duvet featuring vermicelli sticking on an ivory ground with a 5" jac border sewn on four sides. The Trianon duvet is a 330-count silk/cotton damask center panel flanked by linen panels. Retailing at $269 queen, it is available in sage, ivory or wisteria colorways.

Aiming at the bridal market, the white and ivory Trusseau Collection includes the Palais silk coverlet in a button quilt pattern with frame panels. At a retail of $465, it is the highest priced sku in Versailles, Webster said.

Trusseau also includes: Elysee, a scalloped duvet at $199; a 400-count double-hem-stitched sheet at $199 queen, a 400-count sateen sheet at $79 queen, a white velvet blanket with mitered silk borders at $329, and cotton/linen accessories pillows.

Court of Versailles Baby consists of four-piece sets retailing at $149 for a stitched trapunto quilt, stitched trapunto bumper, embroidered fitted sheet and dust ruffle. Baby launches with three patterns: Le Prince, Le Princesse and Cherish.

The bath program includes three towel constructions. The Dubarry towel, available in 14 colors, features large borders on each end at a $14.99 retail. The Marie Antoinette towel, available in white and ivory, is monogrammed with the French queen's distinctive initials. The Valois towel, with a retail of $12.99 is a cotton/rayon jacquard in six colors.
