Lintex Linens/Cobra strikes deal to add sheets to the mix

By Cecile B. Corral -- Home Textiles Today, 2/17/2003

NEW YORK — Through a 25-plus year relationship with a Spain-based textile supplier, Lintex Lines/Cobra Trading recently added sheets to its offerings.

Kurt Hamburger, president, said his company introduced sheet skus during a soft launch in October at the last New York Home Textiles Market.

"But at winter market we officially launched the line," Hamburger added. "We're fully committed to it."

The table linen and bath towel supplier has had a relationship with Valencia-based Textiles de D'Agostino for the past quarter-century as the supplier's manufacturer of 60 percent cotton, 40 percent polyester jacquard and damask tablecloths.

But not until now did Lintex/ Cobra decide to delve into sheets — one of the industry's more competitive product categories.

"We know the sheet business is a tough business, but we think it isn't from the point of view we're taking," Hamburger explained. "We're seeing a need from our clients who don't necessarily want 40-foot containers, but instead want anything from 500 sets up. We're here for the people who want to buy on a smaller scale, who can't be buying the larger quantities."

Hamburger added that his company's approach on the new category is focused on style and quality and gradual product development to be done "over the years."

The company's sheet offerings include 200- to 350-thread count percale sets in sateens and brocades, among other styles, as well as 160-thread count printed flannel sheets.

There are "dozens" of available designs in the varied constructions, as well as exclusive looks for customers.

Hamburger would specify on price points, only to say the sheets cater to "all levels of trade" and are "very competitive."
