Ulster Linen relocates to larger HQ, facility

ISLIP, NY — Ulster Linen Co., a table linens and kitchen textiles importer established in 1933 in Manhattan, last month relocated its headquarters here to a larger and more affordable space. The 6,000-square-foot location is now home to Ulster Linen's administrative offices and its distribution center.

Jacqueline Mihaley, director of marketing, told Home Textiles Today that Ulster Linen moved in the face of inflating rent costs as well as to increase the size of its distribution facility space and consolidate its operations.

"Our rent tripled in Manhattan," Mihaley said. "We started looking for a new space, and this new site has turned out to be better. Now, the owner of our company can walk to work because he lives half a block away. And we have more space than before."

Ulster Linen's old facilities measured 4,000 square feet, forcing the company to lease additional distribution and storage space from a nearby warehouse in Brooklyn, NY.

"The new space allowed us to consolidate all of our operations into a single place," Mihaley said.

"Our turnaround is much faster now. We are able to get orders out the same day if necessary."

Ulster Linen is also opening a new Manhattan showroom at 225 Fifth Avenue in time for the upcoming New York International Gift Fair, taking place Feb. 1 to 6.

Some new introductions for the event include its Crab and Lobster decorative European kitchen towels, made of 57 percent linen and 43 percent cotton with jacquard woven designs. Each is 20" x 25".

Ulster Linen's offerings include table and tea linens, kitchen textiles, bed and bath linens and linen handkerchiefs imported from Czechoslovakia, Ireland and Russia.
