Company C makes bedding debut

CONCORD, NH — Offering a range of boldly colored and patterned area rugs since 1994, Company C has now translated that look to bedding, and recently bowed its first group of top-of-bed and sheets with coordinating rugs and decorative pillows.

"We have always wanted an extension up from rugs," said Chris Chapin, who heads up product development, "and we wanted to do bedding rather than table because bedding has more fun coordinates."

Customers have also been waiting for the company to break into bedding, she added.

Most of the five initial groups, which premiered at High Point last month, have their roots in a particular design or theme from the company's rug collection. A top-selling rug called Kaleidoscope, for example, became the inspiration for the quilted bedding collection of the same name, though it is paired with a striped rug called Razzmatazz. The pattern is available in quilts, standard shams and decorative pillows.

In the Nantucket collection, the blue and white Sand Dollar print springs from a former blue and yellow rug design. The collection includes duvets, standard and Euro shams, bedskirt and Sconset Blue pillows as well as Beaded Velvet pillows in sea green, aqua and sky blue.

Company C also used themes familiar to its rug collection for the bedding, such as garden, beach and lodge. The new Adirondacks group, for example, pairs a saddle blanket quilt with the toile print called Lodge Toile — "something that's not typical with lodge looks."

"The toile softens the lodge look," she said. The toile is offered in natural or red, and the duvet is natural and reverses to red. Four rugs coordinate with this group, including the handhooked Saranac Stripe, Saddle Blanket and Ferns & Berries, as well as the handwoven Sedona. Linen and velvet vine decorative pillows are offered in ochre, olive and burnt ochre.

Flowers star in the final two prints — Tulip and Lilac. Both are available in top-of-the-bed as well as 200 count sheets, and each have a corresponding stripe print, which are available in sheets, cases, pleated bedskirts in 15- or 18-inch drops, and decorative pillows. The coordinating Tulips wool rug is hand tufted and hooked, and accented with lustre yarn. Lilac also has a handtufted wool rug.

All of the bedding is made in India of cotton poplin and will begin shipping in January. A queen duvet will retail for approximately $210, while a flat/fitted sheet will be $100.
