Cecil Saydah refines dec pillow approach

LOS ANGELES — Several months after merging with Louisville/Saydah Home Fashions, Cecil Saydah has revamped its entire approach to its decorative pillow category.
About 230 decorative pillow skus will bow at the show, divided into six themed collections: Paradise, Romantic Roses, Prairie Home, Cowpoke Country, High Sierra and Luxurious Living.
With 28 and 75 skus, each group will have a solid texture or two, prints and embroidered or appliqued elements. The Paradise group will contain such tropical motifs as palm trees, palm leaves and monkeys. The Luxurious Living group will have a mix of velvets, damasks and sateens.
Sizes will range from a 12-inch square accent pillow to a 27-inch square floor cushion, with estimated retails for an 18-inch pillow to be $9.99 to $24.99.
Cecil Saydah is "reviving the line for mass appeal, from discounters to specialty stores," said Mark Grimes, product manager, bath coordinates and decorative pillows.
Originally, the decorative pillow collection appeared too upscale for its customers, though it was not priced as such, he said. In addition, the line was previously merchandised as one big collection.
The company also diversified where it sources from, he said. In addition to India, the company is also bringing product in from China and Turkey. It will also cut and sew some pillows in its Louisville, KY, plant.
The company has also rearranged its 295 Fifth Ave. showroom, he said.
