Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 7/15/2002
WASHINGTON — The American Textile Manufacturers Institute announced that, effective by the end of July, Park Shackelford will assume the role of the association's new president.
As only the fourth president in the ATMI's history, Shackelford will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the ATMI. He also fills the role of chief lobbyist.
Shackelford will replace long-time president Carlos Moore, who has held the position since 1985. Moore will remain with the ATMI on a part-time basis as the senior vp assisting Shackelford in the transition until next May.
Prior to assuming the lead role with the ATMI, Shackelford also held a number of congressional and administration posts, including staff director for the House Agriculture Subcommittee on Cotton, Rice and Sugar; deputy administrator for State and County Operations at the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA); and assistant deputy administrator for farm programs and associate administrator for farm policy, both with the USDA. Immediately prior to joining the ATMI, Shackelford was head of the company he founded, The Shackelford Company, an independent consulting firm.
