Riley tapped as exec vp, sales, mktg. at Sphinx

DALTON, GA — Upon the recent retirement of longtime company executive John Graham as president, area rug importer Sphinx — a division of Oriental Weavers Group — recently promoted longtime marketing executive Michael Riley as its new executive vp of sales and marketing.
Riley, currently vp of marketing, will assume his new duties on Aug. 1. He will report to Mohamed Farid Khamis, chairman of Oriental Weavers Group. In addition, Riley will also become a member of the company's board of directors.
No one has been appointed yet to replace Riley in his current post.
Graham, who had served as president since 1991 when he founded Sphinx as the United States importing arm for Oriental Weavers, will continue to serve the company on its board of directors. His career began with Charm Tred, a division of Burlington Industries. Climbing the ladder within the company, he later became president of Monticello Carpet Mills and Burlington House Area Rugs. Then, in further moves within the company's broadloom divisions, Graham retired as executive vp of Burlington Residential and Lees Carpets in 1982. In 1983, he co-founded Whitney Rugs.
Riley joined Sphinx as director of marketing in 1995. His career began with Karastan in 1987, and he later served as national sales manager for Axminster Carpets Ltd. prior to joining Sphinx.
