Nominees sought for designer awards

Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 6/10/2002

NEW YORK Submissions for the Cotton Inc. Textile Designer Award are being invited for the 21st competition of the event.

Acknowledging the changing marketplace, the awards program is open to products of all cotton and cotton-rich blends.

The awards embrace five categories for home furnishings — decorative fabrics, prints, technical achievement, bed fashions and bath fashions. There also are five categories for apparel fabrics.

The criteria include the designer's ability to add aesthetic creativity and functional effectiveness to the fabrics.

"More than ever we'll be looking at a diverse array of fabric constructions," said Dean Turner, senior vp, global product marketing. "We are in a consumer-driven market which is changing dramatically. Demand continues to grow for fabric constructions and performance finishes that provide unique consumer benefit."

All fabrics submitted must be commercially available and received by Cotton Inc. no later than July 19. Submissions must include fabric sample, category, designer's name, company affiliation, address and phone number.

Submissions should be sent to Cotton Inc. Textiles Designer Awards, 6399 Weston Parkway, Cary, NC 27513.

The awards presentation will be Sept. 17 at the American Craft Museum, 60 West 53 Street here.
