Macy's broadens last-minute holiday shopping program to most of its stores across U.S.

Home Textiles Today Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 12/6/2012 11:41:35 AM

Cincinnati -- Macy's is expanding its annual last-minute shopping marathon to stores nationwide, as the retailer said it plans to open most stores for 48 consecutive hours for its last scheduled One Day Sale in the final weekend leading up to Christmas.

The event will start at 7 a.m. Dec. 21 and will run through 7 a.m. Dec. 23. And though the One Day Sale offers are set to conclude at 7 a.m. on Dec. 23, Macy's stores will stay open for business for the remainder of the day - most until midnight.

Peter Sachse, Macy's chief stores officer, explained that this expansion marks the first time ever that Macy's will keep most stores open around the clock for the last weekend of holiday shopping, "an expansion of our successful marathon that began at select stores in 2006."

Macy's began its tradition of keeping its doors open 24-hours with Macy's Queens Center six years ago. Macy's added additional stores in subsequent years, and last year offered customers the opportunity to shop outside regular store hours in 14 locations that were open 24-hours and in 27 locations that offered extended hours.

This year, select stores will continue this tradition and stay open beyond the One Day Sale through store close on Christmas Eve on Monday, Dec. 24 at 6 p.m.

"We hope to make it easy for our customers across the country to finish their shopping at any time of day or night, and with the benefit of the great deals and value they count on from our One Day Sale events," Sachse said.
