Quidsi launches green products e-commerce site Vine.com

HTT Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 9/27/2012 12:20:36 PM

Jersey City, N.J. - Quidsi, Inc., owner of home goods resource Casa.com, launched Vine.com, an online shopping destination for natural, organic and sustainably-made products.
Home textiles on the site include sheets, duvet covers, throws and dec pillows. Vine.com also skincare items, household goods, apparel, snacks, pet items and sporting goods.
"Millions of people have connected with Quidsi since we launched Diapers.com," said Marc Lore, ceo and co-founder of Quidsi. "In talking with them, we learned that there is a deep interest in living a green, healthy lifestyle, particularly among new parents, but that they had to work really hard to do so. People were also put off by the myth that green products are hard to find and less effective. We see an enormous opportunity with Vine.com to dispel those myths."
To lead Vine.com, Quidsi brought in Josh Dorfman, formerly "The Lazy Environmentalist." Dorfman is an environmental entrepreneur and award-winning author who built the Lazy Environmentalist brand to help everyday Americans lead healthier, more sustainable lifestyles.
"Vine.com was created for two types of consumers - people who are already immersed in a green, sustainable lifestyle and people who want to live a more natural, healthy lifestyle but aren't quite sure where to start," Dorfman said. "Today, there is no reason why ‘buying green' should involve any sort of sacrifice. We examined products across every category. We narrowed down our selection to only those products with descriptions - such as organic, BPA-free or energy efficient - consistent with our standards. As a result, we've arrived at launch with a deep assortment of thoughtful, well-designed products."
Before carrying a product, Vine.com reviews product descriptions (including descriptions of ingredients and materials) that are provided by a vendor. To be available on Vine.com, a product must fall into at least one of the following categories:

  • Designed to remove toxins
  • Energy efficient
  • Natural
  • Organic
  • Powered by renewable energy
  • Reusable
  • Made of sustainable materials
  • Water efficient

Vine.com also maintains a banned ingredients list, and vendors must confirm that their products do not contain substances on the list.
