Comps improved slightly last week

Home Textiles Today Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 8/21/2012 12:38:24 PM

New York - Same-store sales rose 1.9% in the third week of August after a 1.8% gain the prior week, according to the Johnson Redbook Retail Sales Index.
The discount channel generated a 2.6% comp increase, while same-store sales were up 0.6% in the department store segment.
"Most retailers indicated that they were on plan and some said they were tracking the upper end of their target ranges month to date," said Catlin Levis, Redbook analyst.
With Back-to-School activity gaining traction, sales were skewed toward hardlines such as computers and electronics, she said. Apparel sales were best where the school year gets off to an early start.
