Comps up 2.2% in first week of July

New York - Same-store sales rose 2.2% year-over-year during the week ended July 7, according to the Johnson Redbook Retail Sales Index.
The week included the July 4th holiday, which generated a boost in sales of food and outdoor goods, according to Redbook analysts Catlin Levis.
Comps in the discount channel increased 3.1% while they rose 0.4% in the department store segment.
Seasonal goods did good business in the promotional environment, she said. Since July is generally a clearance month, sales performance "vary sharply from week to week depending on individual store promotions, markdown levels and the availability of selected goods, which may be a limiting factor this year, given the early strong start to the season and tighter inventory management."
We would love your feedback!
