Sealy acquires stake in Comfort Revolution

Trinity, N.C. -- Comfort Revolution, the foam bedding resource launched two years ago by industry pioneer Michael Fux, has sold a non-controlling interest in the company to Sealy Corp., one of the Big Three mattress and bedding suppliers.

Terms were not disclosed.

Comfort Revolution will continue to be headed by Fux and his management team, headquartered in West Long Branch, N.J. While continuing to market products under its own brand, Comfort will immediately launch portable bed-in-a-box foam mattresses under both the Sealy and Comfort Revolution brands, while debuting specialty foam pillows and toppers under the Sealy brand in early 2013, it said. New products will be shown for the first time at the Las Vegas Market next month.

"Comfort Revolution has a track record of success," said Sealy president and ceo Larry Rogers in making the announcement this morning. "Their skill in developing and taking to market foam and gel bedding products complements Sealy's portfolio of specialty mattress products." Sealy announced the creation of a separate division to focus on specialty mattress products last fall.

Speaking about Comfort founder Fux, Rogers said, "Michael's reputation in the industry, supplier contacts, relationships with major customers and legacy of innovation truly set the company apart."

"Sealy gives us the strength to reach around the globe with our revolution in comfort," said Fux, adding the new relationship gives it "the resources to explore even more innovative solutions."

Added Rogers, "Our strategic partnership with Comfort Revolution is a very big step for us."
