Veteran home textiles designer publishes pictorial decorating book

HTT Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 5/7/2012 8:36:03 AM

Minneapolis - Kelly Marshall, a designer of contemporary hand-woven home textiles, has published a new book featuring an array of her signature designs, photographed in her own home.

Marshall said her designs emphasize color and pattern, and in her new book - titled "Custom Woven Interiors" - she presents 18 project sets of related items for every room in the home, such as rugs, table runners, placemats, throws, curtains, upholstery, bedspread, pillows, dish towels, and even a tote bag. All of the items can be reproduced from her carefully drawn weave drafts and detailed instructions she offers in the book.

The textiles included in the volume are woven of all-natural, color-fast cotton and linen yarns. They are reversible, washable, and durable for functional use but are designed to also stand as works of art.

As a designer, Marshall said she takes a contemporary approach to traditional designs. In the book, she aims to provide insight into her own pattern process for working with the versatile "Rep Weave" technique, and she shares her tips for finding design inspiration and translating it into a woven textile.

"Weavers at any level, designers, and anyone interested in contemporary fabrics for interiors will find this book a valuable resource," she noted.

Custom Woven Interiors is published by Custom Woven Interiors Ltd. and priced at $45. Marshall is selling it through her web site, www.kellymarshall.com.
