HTT Staff -- Home Textiles Today, 4/2/2012 11:54:32 AM

Goodlettsville, Tenn. - Dollar General late last week opened its 10,000th store. The unit in Merced, Calif. is also one of the retailer's first stores in the state.
"Opening the doors of our 10,000th store is a meaningful day for all of us at Dollar General, and we are excited to celebrate the occasion in California," said Rick Dreiling, Dollar General's chairman and ceo.
The first Dollar General store opened in Springfield, Ky. in 1955. The retailer now operates in 39 states.
