The company was founded by Max Greenburg, an immigrant who moved to the frontier town of Lake Worth, Fla. To open a store called Pioneer Hardware. The store's assortment included dynamite to blow up tree stumps as well as wash tubs, door knobs, hammers and nails, chicken wire, guns and fish hooks, according to the company history.
Current president and owner Penny Murphy is the third generation member of the founding family to run the business.
